Physical Therapist Assistant

J.D. McCarty Center is looking for a Physical Therapy Assistant to join our team. The Physical Therapy Assistant will provide therapy to patients with developmental disabilities, from birth to 21 years of age with a variety of diagnoses. These services encompass our inpatient, outpatient, and intensive therapy programs.
Salary ranges based on experience, and an excellent benefits package is available to all employees. J.D. McCarty offers a flexible work schedule with no evenings or weekends required. The daily schedule offers time for documentation and session planning. The physical therapy department is focused on offering the most up to date treatment techniques, and the cost of continuing education and certifications is covered by the hospital.
Salary: Starting $60,000 then based on experience
Hours: 8:00am-4:00pm Monday - Friday
The following job responsibilities are required:
- Provision of Direct Care: Maintains current log of 30-day co-treat sessions with supervising therapists. Notifies therapist of record if a plan of care needs to be updated. Works with physical therapist to ensure that re-assessments are completed by therapist of record in a timely manner for continuity of service delivery.
- Treatment Planning and Intervention: Follows a plan of care which appropriately prioritizes and addresses the identified limitations and which is aligned with the patient’s/family’s needs, capabilities, and goals. Along with the physical therapist of record, creates treatment programs for patients with a variety of diagnoses at a quality level commensurate with the employee’s experience, adapting treatment techniques for patients unable to respond to conventional methods. Administers the plan of care safely, observes patient response to treatment, and makes necessary adjustments during each treatment session. Establishes rapport with patients and their families. Continually assesses the patient’s changing condition, consults with the therapist of record, and alters the plan of care accordingly, reflecting his or her needs and discharge plans. Consults with other members of the health care team to coordinate PT with other activities and treatments. Participates in patient/caregiver education and discharge planning. Assists with accessing additional resources as needed.
- Documentation: Documents delivery of PT service in language which is clear, concise and legible, and which is in accordance with the APTA Guidelines for Physical Therapy Documentation. Prepares progress notes that meet all departmental standards for completeness and timeliness.
- Patient/Family Education: Provides appropriate education and training to patients and/or caregivers. Assists physical therapist with designing exercise programs that are individualized to meet the patient’s needs. Utilizes written materials, verbal instruction and demonstration that are adapted to the trainee’s age, literacy level, cognitive ability, etc. Informs the physical therapist of record, patient, and caregivers of progress, challenges, and other information related to the therapeutic process. Coordinates with outside health care providers as necessary.
- Supervision of Student Interns: Works together with support personnel and follows delegated tasks as specified, asking questions as necessary. When working with students, provides a positive clinical education experience for each student, with opportunity for the student to gain as much knowledge and experience in the pediatric realm as possible.
- Center and Department Policies: Organizes and prioritizes work schedule in order to meet the productivity standards established by the Department. Attends and participates in departmental meetings, inservices, and other meetings. Complies with Hospital and Departmental policies and procedures.
- General: Adheres to the principles of the APTA Code of Ethics and Guide for Professional Conduct. Complies with the Oklahoma Physical Therapy Practice Act. Maintains current physical therapy assistant licensure, including requirements for continuing education, as well as CPR certification and any other certifications deemed necessary and appropriate by therapist and supervisor.
- Program Development: In concert with the Director of PT, develops existing and new programs to maximize the Hospital’s contribution to our patients and community.
- Willingly and fully completes other job assignments and participates actively in all job activities. Performs other duties as assigned.
JDMC Therapy:
- J.D. McCarty Center offers outpatient physical therapy services on a weekly basis. Our physical therapy department offers a wide variety of treatment techniques including Dynamic Movement Intervention, Universal Exercise Unit, TheraSuit Method, TASES, NISE-Stim, TMR Tots, Reflex Integration, etc. We partner with local orthopedic surgeons to offer orthopedic clinics to our patients, as well as with orthotists for any orthotic needs. The hospital also has a therapeutic pool onsite for aquatic therapy.
- J.D. McCarty Center offers a comprehensive intensive therapy program to patients based on application. Physical therapy assistants are involved in delivery of intensive therapy based on the IMOT model for 3-week periods. Patients are seen in conjunction with occupational and speech therapy. Physical therapy assistants involved in the intensive therapy program will obtain certifications in some or all of the above-mentioned treatment techniques.

J.D. McCarty Center is a pediatric rehabilitation hospital for children with disabilities birth to 21 years of age. . We are a unique 36 bed hospital. Patient are admitted for a 30-day evaluation during which they are assigned a treatment team consisting of nursing unit, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, nutritional services, social services, psychological services, behavioral analysis, and recreational therapy. Our 80-acre s campus includes a on-site elementary, intermediate, and high school which is staffed by Norman Public School teachers. Patients may continue treatment needs beyond the 30-days as an in-patient in habilitation status based upon progress or placement needs.
