Summary/Objective: Provide an enriched atmosphere where students learn subject matter and/or skills that will contribute to their growth. Facilitate hands-on learning and guide students toward the fulfillment of their potential. To provide services to students with disabilities as defined in their Individualized Education Plan and work collaboratively with related services providers to ensure students receive an appropriate summer education.
Pay Range: $22.00 - $24.00
Hours: Monday - Thursday 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Dates of Summer Session: June 2, 2025 through August 1, 2025

Essential Functions:
  • Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Maintains adequate supervision and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with safety care and JDMC policy.
  • Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and communicates these objectives to Direct Care Staff (DCS) working with students.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media, and uses instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting the developmental level of each student in the classroom. 

  • Collaborates with colleagues, DCS, Registered Behavior Technicians (RBT), Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA), Behavioral Health Assistants (BHA), and/or Behavioral Health Clinicians (BHC) on a regular basis regarding modifications and challenging behaviors.
  • Collaborates and maintains an open line of communication with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and teaching methods.
  • Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Reports all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately, or as soon as is reasonably possible.
  • Utilizes Safety Care procedures throughout the course of the day as well as implementing behavior plan and specific supports and strategies necessary for student success.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding students' information.
  • Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Additional Qualifications: Must be able to follow oral and written directions and have the ability to establish effective working relationships with staff and students. Ability to maintain effective classroom management strategies. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Conflict management skills. Strong organizational skills. Empathetic. Positive relationship builder. Knowledge, skills, and abilities sufficient to perform the function of the position as outlined. Must have teaching certificate.

About J.D. McCarty Center:

At J.D. McCarty Center patients are admitted for a 30-day evaluation during which they are assigned a treatment team consisting of nursing unit, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, nutritional services, social services, psychological services, behavioral analysis, and recreational therapy. Our 80-acre s campus includes an on-site elementary, intermediate, and high school which is staffed by Norman Public School teachers. Patients may continue treatment needs beyond the 30-days as an in-patient in habilitation status based upon progress or placement needs. We are a tobacco and vape free facility.
